Hōʻike Oli Presentation Criteria
Age:
- Contestants must be 14 years of age and older
Sex:
- Wahine and Kāne welcome
Time:
- 1 - 5 minutes (no less then 60 sec., no more then 5 minutes)
Subject:
- It is requested that mele be about or closely associated with Kamehameha I, however mele on any subject will be acceptable.
Composition:
- Ancient, Contemporary, or Original
Education:
- A short summary of the chant must be shared in English with the audience before or after the presentation. This will be done to provide the audience with a better understanding and thus a greater appreciation of the chant.
Dress:
- Traditional chant attire
Categories:
- Only one category, 14 years of age and older, wahine and kāne.
